Custom Baseboard with LCD

Hi,

I am considering the possibility of designing a custom base-board to go with the iMX6 Rex module.

Most of the features on the existing base-board are not needed for my end application (such as SATA, PCI-E, HDMI, SIM card, audio, etc) and I also need a much smaller form-factor (approximately 80x120mm in total) roughly the same size as a 5″ LCD display.

I would like to know, if possible, can I connect an LCD display with an 18-bit bus with DCLK, HSYNC, VSYNC and DE signals to the iMX6 Rex module or must the display have an LVDS interface?

The base-board will ideally have an SD card socket from which the desired operating system (Android) would boot. There would also be a USB device connector so that the iMX6 Rex module could enumerate as a mass-storage device (or other USB device if required), a UART for debug output and several I2C devices incorporated as part of an IMU platform. The whole base-board is to run from a 20V battery pack.

The LCD interface is my main concern at the moment as I believe the rest of the requirements are achievable.

Please can you offer any advice on the above?

Hi Kevin,

I have never done it, but I think it should be possible. LVDS is serialized RGB, so you need to de-serialize it to make it parallel again. This could be the chip you are looking for : DS90CF366, DS90CF386: http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ds90cf366.pdf
